THE PROJECT
A 1980s villa in Mantua, characterized by a large roof that envelops the entire floor plan, extending outward to form a spacious semi-perimeter portico. Architects Gea and Negro Frer of the firm Zeropositivo Architetti, experts in passive construction, worked to open up the spaces and bring in as much light as possible through the existing openings, redesigning the thermal envelope and airtightness to bring the building up to standards comparable to a passive house.

THE WINDOWS
The window and door frames are concealed by a custom-designed subframe that hides the “Zen” system, leaving only the 35mm edge in natural oak visible. All openings, despite their large size, feature single-pane windows: the low-emissivity double-pane glass maximizes natural light.
