THE AWARD
The Passive House Institute’s Component Award recognizes the most technically advanced solutions for energy efficiency in building construction. The category for this edition was “Retrofitting with Passive House Windows”: minimally invasive solutions for replacing windows and doors in existing buildings. The jury evaluated three criteria—thermal efficiency, degree of prefabrication, and ease of installation.

THE SYSTEM
Versatile Passiva is phA-certified—the highest class awarded by the Passive House Institute—for both reference climate zones: cool temperate and warm temperate.
The system adapts to the existing opening. The subframe, custom-designed for each opening, accommodates the dimensional and geometric irregularities typical of historic buildings, reducing thermal bridges at the junction with the masonry and minimizing installation time.
At the heart of the system is the adaptive wood and cork frame, a Eurofinestra patent. The same profile progressively adjusts the amount of cork within it, adapting to different climate zones without altering the aesthetics.
