Kick-off Winloop

KICK-OFF

WINLOOP has begun, the research and development project that aims to transform windows and doors from complex waste into a materials bank, closing the production cycle.

The problem is well known: when a window is replaced, its components—wood, glass, metal, and seals—almost always end up in landfills or are recycled into low-value materials, because they are assembled in a way that makes disassembly difficult. This is where WINLOOP comes in.

THE PROJECTS

The project is the result of a collaboration between Eurofinestra and Eurac Research, the Institute for Renewable Energy in Bolzano, which has previously partnered on research programs. Eurac’s scientific expertise ensures that every decision is evaluated in terms of CO₂ reduction and actual environmental impact. The project was selected by the Cariverona Foundation as one of the winners of the Research & Development 2025 call for proposals.

WINLOOP operates along three main lines: new construction methods that allow materials to be separated at the end of their life cycle without damaging them, a digital passport for each window or door that tracks its composition and disassembly procedures, and a service model that includes pickup, reconditioning, and scheduled maintenance. The goal is to make every component—from glass to cork—100% recoverable, anticipating European regulations that will mandate circularity standards and digital passports for construction products.
